Penguin is designed to provide route comparison and navigation without requiring an account. This policy describes the current iPhone and iPad release and the Penguin website.
Penguin does not collect personal data, create advertising profiles, use third-party advertising trackers, or sell personal information. The app does not require a name, email address, phone number, or account.
When you grant location access, Penguin uses your location on your device to establish a route origin, provide guidance, calculate distance traveled, reroute, and show camera-ahead information. Precise location, destination, route geometry, and raw GPS observations are not sent to Penguin or stored on Penguin servers.
Apple MapKit services process search and routing requests under Apple's privacy terms. Penguin does not receive an identity from those services.
Routing preferences, saved places, recent destinations, trip summaries, appearance choices, and pending camera reports are stored locally on your device. Trip summaries contain the destination name, date, selected route type, trip distance, expected duration, and known-camera count—not a history of raw GPS coordinates. You can disable or delete local trip history in Settings.
Penguin may download public camera-data tiles from penguinmaps.pages.dev. A request identifies a coarse one-degree geographic tile, approximately 110 km north-to-south, rather than a precise location or route. These requests use an ephemeral app session without cookies, accounts, advertising identifiers, or persistent app network storage. Tiles may be cached on your device for up to seven days for performance.
Cloudflare delivers the website and camera tiles and may process standard network information, such as an IP address, request time, and user agent, to provide and secure that service. Penguin does not use this information for advertising, cross-site tracking, or location profiling.
If you purchase a Penguin supporter subscription, Apple processes the transaction and provides Penguin with verified product and entitlement status. Penguin does not receive your full payment-card details. Purchases are governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy.
In this release, camera reports are queued locally on your device and are not uploaded to Penguin. A later release will update this policy before any server submission feature is enabled.
The Penguin website does not use advertising cookies, account sign-in, or behavioral analytics. Cloudflare may process standard request data as the site's hosting provider.
Local app information remains on your device until you delete it through available controls, remove the app, or the operating system clears it. You can deny or revoke location access in system Settings, disable trip-history storage, delete saved trip history, and manage supporter subscriptions through Apple.
Penguin is a general-audience navigation utility and is not directed to children. Penguin does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Material changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Privacy questions can be directed through the Penguin support page. The public contact email will be added before App Store submission.
